What South L.A. residents need to know for Super Tuesday
California voters will cast their vote for the 2020 democratic nominee on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8.pm. You can find all the relevant information about how to vote here. Here’s a breakdown of South L.A. election information that you need to know.
Where can South LA residents vote?
Traditional polling places are being replaced with “vote centers” where people who live anywhere in the county can vote early, drop off ballots, or register to vote.

Where to drop off my vote-by-mail ballot?
This year, L.A. County residents who vote by mail will be able to submit their ballot by using one of over 200 new “drop boxes” across the county. According to the county website, this will allow voters to more “easily and securely drop off their ballot in-person.”
If you are already registered to vote by mail, you must make sure that you sign your “vote by mail return” envelope and that your ballot is sealed inside.

When do I have to submit my vote by mail ballot?
If you’re mailing in your ballot, it must be postmarked by March 3 and received by the elections office no later than March 6 in order for your vote to be counted.
Who’s running for the Democratic nomination?
In total, there are eight candidates running for the Democratic nomination. Recent polls show overwhelming support for Senator Bernie Sanders in California, with more than a third of the Californians polled saying they support him.
Senator Elizabeth Warren was the second most popular candidate according to the poll, with 17% of those surveyed saying they support her.
Other Democratic candidates include former Vice President Joe Biden, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, Tom Steyer and Michael Bloomberg.
How do Democratic candidates move on to the general election?
Ultimately, the Democratic candidate who gets chosen to represent the party against President Donald Trump will be the one that gets the largest number of delegates. In Democratic primaries, delegates are individuals who are chosen to represent their state in the election.
According to “Vote Smart,” in a state with 10 delegates and three candidates, “if 60% of the people supported candidate X, 20% supported candidate Y, and 20% supported candidate Z, candidate X would receive six delegates and candidates Y and Z would each receive two delegates.
After the primaries are completed in each state, whichever candidate receives the largest share of delegates nationwide will become the Democratic Party’s nominee. They will then go on to challenge Trump for the presidency in the general election.
What other states are voting on Super Tuesday?
Multiple states have their primaries on Super Tuesday, hence the name. This year, 14 states including California will hold their primary elections on Super Tuesday. The 2020 Super Tuesday states include California, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Virginia.
What else is on the ballot for South LA residents?
South L.A. voters will be casting their ballots for more than just the California Democratic primary on Tuesday.
The Los Angeles County district attorney election will also take place on Tuesday, along with the election for LAUSD board members for districts 1 and 7, and a number of other important local elections. For LAUSD’s District 1, George McKenna, the incumbent, is running unopposed.
