logion 10

See, I have sown
fire into the cosmos,
and I shall guard it carefully
until it blazes.

IGNITE!!!
IGNITE!!!!!!
IGNITE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t help but hear the prophet, Zach de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine, begin with a whisper and crescendo into vein-popping roar. IGNITE!

The seed of fire you are… The seed of fire I am… has been guarded carefully, and now it is time to blaze.

This time. Now!
Now has placed a call upon each of our lives.
The cosmos (in this “created human order” sense of the word) is in desperate need of the two things fire brings. Purification and illumination.

Burn away
…our inclinations and habits and market systems driven by fear.
…our culture of white-body supremacy and all the -isms keeping us from community.
…our self-loathing, self-absorption, and the false-self structure with which we all struggle.

Blaze! And let scapegoating, and screen-numbing, and the glorification of individualistic materialism become the ashes — the bio-char — that fuels healing and a re-membering of human, earth & cosmic (in the “unimaginably beautiful and interconnected universe” sense of the word) community!

We engage in this inner spiritual work
of deep listening
of connecting to our bodies
of tending to our racialized and other forms of trauma
of practicing restraint for the sake of earth and neighbor
of feeling the feels and welcoming the whole of our humanity with compassion

because
we are fire seeds

because the particularity of you
your creativity
your responsibility and care
your coming into the fullness of your True Self
is an essential element of the Divine Fire!

Beloveds, IGNITE!!!

As news continues of America divided, of COVID spikes, and of pipeline constructed climate collapse,
your fire need not be squelched by status quo.

Our fire — all fires — have been guarded with care. Now is the time to channel our energy and attention to the Love that will heal and set us ablaze.

Now is the time to dance as community in the Divine and Reconciling and Creative Fire!

One more time. IGNITE!

Intertwine is going inward. As cooler weather moves in and quarantine persists, let the be a season for developing our inner life. To aid us on the journey, we’re engaging the wisdom contained in the Gospel of Thomas, an ancient mystical Christian text. Lynn Bauman’s translation and commentary are the primary source for these reflections. Those of you who want to dig in even deeper, consider purchasing his books: Find Lynn’s basic GoT translation (in The Luminous Gospels) and his exceptional commentary (In Trouble and In Wonder) here.

Also key to this work is to address trauma within our bodies and systems. We continue to engage in the body-work presented in Resmaa Menakem’s My Grandmother’s Hands: Raciialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending our Hearts and Bodies. It’s not too late to get involved in this work. We have a few copies of the book available, and triads or small groups are still forming to work through the practices and material together. Find out more about this work here
