The strange script in the drifting snow
Day Eighteen | Waiting Still

Lightning and rain
gave way
to wind and snow
School this far north
wasn’t delayed
I was driving home
after dropping off Etta
and the neighbor girl

There on the road
was a strange script
written in drifting snow
My mind did not know it
but my heart could sing the words

This is what they said,

Care for one another
through these storms

Swans on the river
Eagle in the tree
You’ll find enough
if you let it find you

Your eyes were made
to be soft
Look on each other with love
Your body was made
for hugs
Open your arms
Let your shoulders drop
Receive

We will get through
We will make it through
together

I kept making my way
through the neighborhood
Words on the blacktop
all the way to my driveway

They said,

Be careful what you call judgment
The Earth’s shaking
The Sky’s pouring down
Love’s works are mysterious
Learn how to dance with them

Come close
Touch your grief
and honor death again

Those who have the courage to
live within the limits
of their life
will find themselves
Unlimited
They will come to know the Source

Don’t let shame
define you
When it speaks
Listen
Then smile, laugh even
I hear you
Please, sit down
Let’s listen together
to what Love says
is possible

There is beauty
in the dark
and the light
Sunrise and Sunset
Long Nights and Cold Days
Remember to play

The words blew away that afternoon
Carried by the wind
A snowflake for each Soul

If you haven’t done it since Thursday
Go outside and stick out your tongue
One of those flakes is for You
