Realtor.com Culture and Job Opportunities

Recently I got to attend Realtor.com’s recruiting event with the help of Girl Geek Dinner. Here are my notes.

Realtor.com tech stacks

Backend is AWS heavy. Mobile is iOS and Android native. It also experiments with machine learning on AWS. Realtor.com has received special recognition from Amazon as a partnership, as a top performer, and a power user for AWS services. Definitely a power user of AWS. Realtor.com has so many records that big data is in their DNA.

Innovation at Realtor.com

Augmented reality home listing app like Pókemon GO for real estate. Zillow seems posh in comparison, but Realtor.com has massive datasets which may excite many.

Text mining, natural language processing, image classification customized ranking of search results are some of modern skills that realtor.com value.

People at Realtor.com

The employees of Realtor.com are slightly older than a typical Silicon Valley startups. I would say they are in their early 40s to early 50s. It is more diverse than a typical Silicon Valley startup and corporation. There are folks of all ages, backgrounds and ethnic backgrounds — plenty of Asian Americans, Hispanic and Indian Americans. There are quite a few female employees working in all kind of positions including leadership, engineering and data. The office arrange arranges on the traditional side. At the event, red white wine and beers are served. The leadership seems more traditional corporate America. There’s no doubt that realtor.com is a slightly more traditional, massive technology company located in Sunnyvale.

“I am so obsessed with technology”
“I am so obsessed with human behaviors ” — a quick sound byte from data scientists at realtor.com

Why Realtor.com

Having the most complete access to MLS listing data is definitely a solid strength of realtor.com MLS data are private to MLS listing agencies and privileges are granted to licensed realtors and brokers.

Why realtor.com in their own words: “our mission is very noble - help people get a home” “It’s a nice combination of being in a small startup yet also a big company .”

Very grateful to be hosted by the realtor.com leadership and engineers. Definitely got a renewed understanding of the operations and visions of realtor.com. I can really see realtor.com being a great fit for mid-career engineers and those chase big data. Want to read more articles like this? Follow me.
