intimate.io has been named Best New Company一Industry Choice at the 19th Annual Cybersocket Web Awards in Los Angeles on 14 January 2019.

The Cybersocket Web Awards is the only event of its kind to honour the best gay adult websites and service providers in the world. Now in its 19th year, the annual awards show recognises outstanding individuals and companies for their achievements as technological entrepreneurs, agents of free expression and innovators in gay online media and entertainment.

“We are very proud to receive this level of recognition from our peers, especially given our comparatively short tenure within the industry,” said Leah Callon-Butler, co-founder of intimate.io, a cryptocurrency solution designed to bring security and safety to the adult industry. “This is a testament to our commitment to the LGBITQ+ community and the strong rapport we’ve built with our amazing global partner network.”

A number of intimate.io partners also received Cybersocket Web Awards:

  • Company of the Year — Lucas Entertainment
  • Innovative Company of the Year — JustFor.Fans
  • Best Hosting Company — MojoHost
  • Best Webcam Performer — Wesley Woods
Lukas Taylor and Michael Lucas of Lucas Entertainment

Homophobia still exists in Los Angeles

These accolades come after a difficult year for the gay community, after adult film star, Wesley Woods, was assaulted in an unprovoked attack in Los Angeles in August 2018.

‘Even here in LA, which I would like to think is a relatively progressive city, our community is still being targeted,’ said Lukas Taylor, a close friend of Woods and advocate for intimate.io. ‘I can totally understand why some people are still afraid to reveal their sexual identity.’

To address this pervasive stigma, intimate.io is developing an app that allows responsible people the freedom to explore and indulge their sexuality — safely and satisfyingly — without being exposed.

This is important because privacy is critical to different people for different reasons. For some, it’s so they can buy their first kinky toy, or go on a same sex date, without everyone at the office knowing their weekend activities. Others might want to purchase gay content online without the transaction showing up on their bank statement. Other people might want to donate to a charity advocating for transgender rights, without being publicly identified.

How is intimate.io solving this problem?

intimate.io is using cryptocurrency technology to achieve a unique situation where trust, transparency and privacy can coexist.

  • intimate.io is a payment gateway and digital wallet providing access to an ecosystem of adult products and services.
  • It does not require consumers to reveal private details about themselves.
  • Instead, users create a ‘pseudonym profile’ which is visible to everyone on the network, but separated from their private identity.
  • Users can verify personal information about themselves (such as ID and sexual health records) via a trusted third party, without having to attach copies of the real documents to their profile.
  • This means that people can establish trust with others and selectively disclose details about themselves — when they like and with whom they like — without having to give away who they are at home or work.
  • This also solves problems with fake profiles because users can prove there is a real person behind the pseudonym.
