What is LIVE?
The intimate.io cryptocurrency payment plugin is available for download and install now at the WordPress plugin repository.

The plugin has been operational for a few months via direct integration on CryptoSmiles.Store but we held off submitting the plugin to WordPress until we had updated our help documentation.

This means that any adult website using WooCommerce on Wordpress can now download and install the intimate.io cryptocurrency payment plugin to offer their customers the option to pay in crypto.

While our focus is on serving the Adult Industry, if you have a vanilla website on WooCommerce and you too want to try the plugin, feel free to reach out.

How does it work?
The intimate.io cryptocurrency payment gateway is designed to sit alongside all your other existing payment options.

Typically, adult merchants will offer the following options at checkout:

• Credit Card payment;
• Maybe PayPal (if they haven’t had their account shut down yet…);
• And then intimate.io crypto as the second or third option for payment.

Having a crypto payment option is especially useful in the event that a customer’s credit card declines and you don’t want to lose a sale.

Leah explains how intimate.io crypto payments can benefit your business.

Here’s how the process goes:

• Prices are displayed as per the merchant’s local currency as normal throughout the site.
• Then at checkout, the local price is converted to the cryptocurrency of the customer’s choosing.
• The customer then sends their crypto to the wallet address provided by the intimate.io payment gateway.
• Once received, the transaction is marked as paid in WooCommerce and the funds are transferred to the merchant at the end of each day.

Does it require much work to set up?
Once you have been provided your login credentials from your intimate.io Customer Success Manager (make a request here), you can typically do the set up without the need for a developer — this assumes that you use the standard WooCommerce checkout process and haven’t altered the workflow.

At a high level the process is:

1. Search intimate.io to find the plugin on WordPress.
2. Click Install Now and WordPress will do its thing.
3. Click Activate.
4. Add your intimate.io credentials to the config screen in WooCommerce.
5. Add your WooCommerce API credentials to the intimate.io Partner Portal.
6. Start accepting cryptocurrency payments.

Why Wordpress and WooCommerce?
The technology underpinning the WooCommerce plugin is the intimate.io transactional API which can be used by any platform to transact — so why did we start with WooCommerce for WordPress?

The Adult Industry has continually been marginalised by financial institutions and other corporates who seem to take great delight in passing their own moral biases on the masses. WordPress is not immune from such moral guidelines (nudity and sex products are ok but sexually explicit acts are not) but they are relatively clear and consistent on their rules — which is better than most other platforms.

There are 24M WordPress sites and over 3.3M of them are on WooCommerce. This gives us the chance to reach the greatest amount of adult merchants who may have previously felt — or are feeling — the sting of financial exclusion.

All the smaller adult web-stores out there represent a set of incredibly resilient entrepreneurs who are independent, hardworking and sex-positive in the face of pervasive stigma. We felt it was our duty to launch the intimate.io payment gateway to serve their needs first, even before we got to work on integrating with some of our larger global merchant partners.

In addition to the WordPress plugin for WooCommerce, we have launched the transactional API for direct integrations. With the API, you completely control your checkout experience and we just handle the crypto process for you.

For all intimate.io merchants, the Partner Portal is also available so you can log into your unique merchant account and easily track all your transactions and account balances.
