AU NATURALE

This year it’s all about bringing outside in, with a focus on natural, organic materials such as wood floors, stone and plant life. To coincide with this a palette of warm brown, earthy tones will be seen amongst mushroom greys and deep forest greens for accenting through the scheme, bringing the healing properties of the outdoors into the home.

Light wood inspired shades are a great alternative to traditional beiges and tans for the minimalist fans, but classic creams and whites with undertones can be cleverly manipulated with light in this trend. Texture is key, and rattan and clay handmade accessories will complement the natural feel to this trend.

LIVING CORAL

It wouldn’t be a colour trend report without a mention of Pantone’s colour of the year — Living Coral. This hopeful, optimistic shade can be used on accent walls and in accessories as a bright and uplifting highlight to more neutral interior shades.

Instead of using coral literally, you could split its two counterparts and use pink and orange within a space, with designers creating geometric artwork and rugs using this split strategy.

MOODY BLUES

With designers becoming more and more adventurous when it comes to dark colours used in interiors, we are seeing more and more moody colours adorning the walls of our homes. From midnight blues to deep, saturated greens — bold colour choices create a drama to a living space that can’t be made using neutral colours.

The trend is particularly popular in kitchens and bathrooms, giving a luxurious and sumptuous feel. If you’re not ready to paint your walls black just yet — opt for incorporating the trend gradually using accents to ease your space into the trend.

JEWELLED UP

If you’re ready for a dramatic change to your space and are unafraid of bold, bright colours — 2019 is the interior year for you. Richer hues of deep berries, statement pinks, bold indigo and emerald greens will be seen across both home accessories and paint trends.

Although paint trends are making a shift towards this bold colour palette, we prefer a white architectural backdrop when introducing this trend, focusing on incorporating statement upholstery and layers of fabrics, accessories and rugs in these colours to create a fearless aesthetic.

CITRUS BRIGHTS

Inject some personality into your home with bold yellows and oranges filled with optimism. With the ability to brighten up practically any living space with its rejuvenating qualities, citrus colours will add a pop of colour to an otherwise bland interior.

A little goes a long way — these rich and inviting tones work perfectly as accents with a backdrop of softened misty blues and calming grey undertones, which bring a sense of tranquillity to an otherwise playful trend.

Is 2019 the year when you are going to brighten up your home and pull the paintbrush and roller out? I think it may be with these colours…
