Wednesday marked National Nurses Day and the start of National Nurses Week 2020. May 12 marks International Nurses Day across the globe, which is also Florence Nightengale’s birthday.

The first Nurses Week was observed between October 11 through October 16, 1954, to mark the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s mission to Crimea, according to the American Nurses Association.

Nurses around the country are being recognized for all of their contributions and hard work that they do to save lives and take care of patients — especially as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage the nation and the world.

In order to show their appreciation and gratitude for these health care heroes, companies across the country are offering discounts and freebies. We have compiled a list of some of the deals exclusively for these hardworking health care workers:

Sheetz: Free coffee to nurses, hospital workers, and paramedics through June 1.

Free nursing eBooks: Amazon offers a selection of free Kindle books for nurses.

Adidas: Nurses and other health care professionals receive a 40 percent discount.

Discounted gas: BP is offering one-time codes to nurses and other healthcare responders for a 50 cent per gallon discount at their next fill up at BP and Amoco stations.
