From Idea To Product: Tucker Schreiber’s Intrapreneurial Journey
We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Tucker Schreiber of Shopify. Tucker is the Product Manager and creator of Shopify’s Frenzy, a mobile marketplace for high demand, limited edition products. Many know of Frenzy as a way to get limited edition sneakers without having to wait in line overnight, but it can be used for any similar retail experiences.
Like most great intrapreneurs, Tucker actually started his career with Shopify in a completely unrelated department. Seeing the way people would line up overnight for some retail releases, he thought that there had to be a better way to do it and set out to find that way. Given that Shopify was already a leader in the e-commerce space, he believed they could extend themselves into a new category. Using the very little resources available to him at the time, he set out to validate his idea, build a prototype, and get a buy-in from the company to make his idea a reality.
We sat down with Tucker to hear the full story of his intrapreneurial journey from having an idea to creating and running a completely new platform for the well-established company. He also gave us his thoughts about intrapreneurship in general and how other individuals and companies can innovate together.
