A Little Bit About Polybutylene Terephthalate
Polybutylene Terephthalate (a.k.a. PBT) is a crystalline thermoplastic polyester resin with qualities ideally suited to an injection molding resin. PBT has similar properties and composition to polyethylene terephthalate. It is obtained by polycondensation of terephthalic acid or 1,4-butanediol with dimethyl terephthalate. In addition, this commodity is solvent resistant, barely shrinks during forming, and is mechanically strong.
Recommended materials for bulk storage of the PBT include LDPE, HDPE, Aluminum, and Carbon Steel (grounded). Such containers should be protected from direct sunlight and in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area, away from strong oxidizing materials.
Polybutylene Terephthalate is used mainly as engineering plastic; in domestic power tools; cooker components, automotive parts; blends with polycarbonate; in impellers, gears, and hinges; electrical components; and as viscosity control agent in cosmetics.
