I Too Have Fallen

Alone on a bench by a tree.
A leaf swirls down, as lonely as me:
disconnected from its source of life,
I too pay that price.

For I was once connected to others
my friends they were: my sisters and brothers.

But like the chilly air breaks the ties
of leaves on trees that bend and writhe
in the blustery autumn wind,
I too have fallen, cracked and dim.
