waiting
brown and grey
they cluster
standing, watching-
waiting
Huddled together
patient
staying strong for
what may
come along
greens of summer
burst out
signs of life
sought and
found
the trees are waiting
the cold winds blow
as the air scents snow
as the breezes sing
through your leaves
through your branches
i see you waiting
as the sun leaves the sky
never reaching
that high
in the center of the world
the trees are calling
leaves are falling
the greens of life
are fading
the dawn of new
dissipating
the colors of twilight
pink and purple
they highlight
in fragments of light
the season changing
for which we’re waiting
fill the sky
with color
red orange gold
time is old
slivers of
glowing
and knowing
like treasure
how to measure
mixed with purple
and pink
new life reseeded
just waiting
like the trees
stand waiting
trees stand certain
sending roots down so deep
as the years they’ll keep
understanding
through the tests
of time
through the wheels
of crime
the trees
stay
standing
just waiting
