How many metrics for Meta Execution?

The other day someone asked me, how many metrics do you list for a Meta execution interview. Diana Yao recommends roughly 12–17 metrics. See her video here as she discusses the North Star, supporting metrics and counter + downstream metrics.

North Star

• metric count: one
• time: 3 mins
• can be before supporting or start with north star
• Starting with North Star is more important if you are senior
• Don’t forget
• The Why: Your logic
• Define metric: Is it a count or a proxy

Funnel Metrics

• metric count: 5 to 10
• time: ~7 mins
• levers for north star
• leverage user funnel
• product thinking: what needs to happen to be successful for user
• director or VP
• don’t forget growth or retention metrics
• why metrics are important to users

Counter & Downstream Metrics

• metric count total: 4–6
• time: 3 mins
• metric count: 2–3 counter metrics
• metric count: 2–3 downstream metrics
• Come up with some of them not all of them
