Needless Things

Deep Sea Vermillion
Intrinsically Difficult

Needful things unmeetable
An earthen grave of the past, full of fertile soil
Tilled and buried premature
Demons cling to the dirt
A feral oil leaking through the loam’s lice
A primordial wilderness, transcendent beyond kings and queens
And fate’s providence in the grasp of kingdoms,
Loiters hungry even for devils
Satanas the highest even fears the Rorschach blot
Trailing away in myriad forms since the first sundering
When the world burned, the world burned
The burning legion howling in the heart of a man
Voracious fiery wrath even demons in the pit fear
They should fear, they should fear, know they anything at all
Know you anything at all, what insecurity could lurk in your breast?
You, the Beast, a name Belial but borrows
The first hunger bleeds from the conclave of time
From the beginning to the end, beyond the swing of pendulums
For all the angels of God could but marvel in the avarice
Archangel and scribe alike dwarfed before the appetite unending
What a monster
What a beautiful monster
And me? And me? And me? A revenant
Spirit vengeful, but a borrowed form
What need have I for trappings such as these?
A miracle in earthly form, visage of thousand forms temporary
Hush, all trailing from these — dust. Dust!
Memory and shared — dust!
Achievements — dust!
All attainments — dust!
Only hunger.
Only Beast.
