The petroglyphs are one of the many amazing places you can explore in New Mexico weather your taking your dog for a walk or just want to look at the astounding architecture. The main part of this national monument is the stunning art work made by the pueblo people who lived in the Rio Grand valley. Most of the Petroglyphs were carved in the 1300 to late 1680’s, there were carved into the edges of large rocks with a stone chisel and a hammerstone and can be seen along the 17 mile walk within the monument, these by far is what catches my intrest the most in this monument. I also would want to know a little more on why they chose this in particular stop to do there carvings because they are for the most part very close together, I know they lived in the area but why not move them around new mexico. Out of the 5 c’s the one that is most inpactful on this monument is change over time in, the pueblo were carving in the rocks within a 3000 year time span. The context of the carving are for many reasons but most of the rocks were carved because they depicted societies and religions back rounds. The significants of this location to me is when I was very young me and my mother would go on walks in the petroglyph’s and seeing all the carvings always amazed me, knowing that people used to live here and their art expressed what was going on at the time.
