My Thoughts on Why It Is So Confusing
The mystery of the MPP (Medium Partner Program) is you get paid solely on read time. There’s so much info, though, that they cannot tell you. All you are told is the number of views and reads. A view is someone who clicks on your article but doesn’t stay at least 30 seconds in it. A read is when someone stays at least 30 seconds.
The above is the totality of what they tell you. Next, this is what they don’t tell you and can’t tell you. A member and/or friend of Medium pays a fee each month to Medium You don’t know what that is. This member might also have half that sent to another Medium author who got them to sign up. The bottom line is you don’t know how much each member who views or reads your article pays into to Medium each month. But, whatever it is, this is the amount of money at play for you.
So, some Medium member has viewed or read your article. Medium has to track that member’s read time for everything they read for the whole month. Then, with that information, they calculate the percent of read time of that member that your article got from them. That’s the amount of money that your article earned.
Now, I think it’s more complicated than that! What it looks like to me is that the money paid in by each member is divided into the number of days the month has. And, the percent of time your article earned from…
