Problem:

Ironically, social media is not very social anymore.

When social networks emerged in the 2000’s, it was supposed to be the beginning of a new era of online connections. Instead, social platforms hijacked and commoditized attention at the global scale, moving away from interacting with people to interacting with content.

Social media users have become engrossed in content consumption. They are trapped in the ‘endless scroll’. With the help of behavioral psychologists and other experts, social media companies have perfected their algorithms. These algorithms know exactly when to feed a user their next hit of dopamine triggering content. This keeps their users glued to the screen, mindlessly consuming content for extended periods of time. In order to maximize profits, users are then artificially categorized and put into divisive segments, and this segmentation makes it easier to sell highly targeted ads. For these tech giants, it’s all about the money. It has become clear that current platforms lack the ability to facilitate meaningful engagement or connection, and do not provide avenues for staying in the know.

Solution: Suptho

Suptho, short for ‘what’s up though’, is a mobile + web app powered by blockchain technology that seeks to solve these existing issues by merging the digital world with the physical.
