Adam Figman wrote this story for SLAM Magazine in November about Devin Booker. The story intertwines quotes from current NBA players, Booker himself and Booker’s brother. It follows Booker’s path to success from the time that he was in high school until where he is now in his NBA career.

Figman did a good job getting quotes from multiple people about their feelings on Booker and how good his game is. Additionally, the quotes he got were from people close to Booker that really know his story. He used statistics to show how well Booker has played during his first few seasons, and how he has improved since entering the league.

One of the best aspects of the story is that Figman left room for growth. He used Booker’s quotes at the end to show that Booker is still striving to get better, and that he still has not reached all the goals that he has set. This was a contrast from the beginning where he talked about how good of a player Booker is now.

I think that Figman could have left the profanity out of the story that he used a few times. SLAM is a lot different from an ESPN type of publication, but the profanity did not add anything to the story.

Overall, the piece was well written and it was very interesting. The story gave context to Booker’s career and showed a personal side to him that most fans would not be able to get on their own.
