Whether it’s a field goal, a 3-pointer or a free throw, they all collectively put points on the board. What I found astonishing looking at the Memphis Grizzlies team stats is that in each game of the season the Grizzlies never shot below 70 percent in free-throw percentage. Contrary to its field goal and 3-pointer percentage which never reached 50 percent in each of its games this season.

The Grizzlies have also had plenty of personal fouls this season. As a team, they have the highest average of double digit fouls for each game of the season than any other team in the NBA, averaging 23.6 fouls per game. I find it ironic that a team good in free throw shooting would give the opposing team as many chances to make free throws too. I am not trying to say that the Grizzlies should depend on most of their points coming from free throws, but instead of getting fouled, the Grizzlies need to take success at the free-throw line by attacking the basket and drawing fouls. They should produce opportunities where free throws could give leverage and create more close games with the season moving forward.

The free-throw percentage contributes to the Grizzlies current season because in relation to their percentages in field goal and 3-pointers, it demonstrates that in the near future the Grizzlies can perform great under pressure. Making a free throw can be very nerve wracking and requires the most concentration. If anything, despite how this season has gone for the Grizzlies at least they have a positive aspect as a team to lean in this game of basketball.
