The Memphis Grizzlies recently benched Tyreke Evans in the last four games before the NBA trade deadline. The decision proved to be one of the many blunders the Grizzlies made in the past few years.

Memphis proved unable to reach a deal with another team and will hold on to Evans for the remainder of the season. The Celtics, Nuggets, and Wizards all made offers, but the Grizzlies did not come to agreements with any of these teams.

The failure to make a deal leaves Memphis in a precarious position. Evans becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season. Evans averages team-highs of 19.5 points per game and five assists per game. After such a breakout year, Evans will likely sign with a different team. Therefore, instead of getting draft picks or a younger player with potential upside, the Grizzlies will get nothing. Not to mention, the team lost all four games with Evans on the bench.

The season continues to spiral downward as Memphis dropped their seventh in a row with a loss to Oklahoma City on February 14th. Their record now sits at a dismal 18–38. In a discouraging season, the mistake with Evans just adds to a long list of grievances for Memphis fans. Most fans probably find themselves feeling like actor Courtney Vance in this GIF.

If Evans does not re-sign, Memphis fans will surely make their disappointment heard. The fans already hold resentment over the signing of the injury prone Chandler Parsons. Parsons missed 29 games so far this season, including 20 in a row before playing on February 14th. The 29-year-old only averages 8.6 points per game this season.

Just as Vance could not manage to hold his emotions and looked away from the judge in this scene, Memphis fans will want to look away from the television for the rest of this season.
