How I believe working in a feedback culture will skyrocket my leadership skills in 2017
For 3 years my co-founder and I ran a startup from London. By the end of September we failed to meet our targets to obtain the next round of funding and shut down operations.
I’ve always been obsessed with the concept of ‘the right culture’ and have personally felt the positive impact it has on individual and team performance.
After rendeevoo, a company we managed to bring — so to speak — from zero to a 100, it only felt right to take on a great role within a talent management software company that is destined to grow from 100 to 1,000.
INTUO embodies ‘reaping the benefits’ of a great feedback culture, and its product enables companies to do so as well.
After merely two months in this team these are the two things that struck me while working in a feedback culture:
Impression #1: No school teaches 22–24-year olds to give such constructive feedback/praise — A culture does!
Impression #2: That nasty word “feedback” that makes your skin crawl — when used correctly — actually means “helping each other grow”
So how do I believe this ‘personal growth based culture’ will turn me into a Kick-ass leader in 2017?
Control is no longer enforced via power, but through people.
Having monthly one-on-ones with your team members, where you actually listen to how they want to grow within the organisation, or simply what they feel is holding them back is so simple, yet GOLDEN!
I’ve had 3 one-on-ones so far, and this coaching approach is soo immensely valuable in understanding what drives certain individuals, and how you can best streamline their drive with the purpose of the company.
I truly believe that empowering people by allowing autonomy and purpose to thrive is the key to any agile growing company, and skyrocketing a leader from 100 to 1,000!
How do you believe you will become a better version of yourself in 2017? — Would love to read all about it!
