The photo archives of Ebony and Jet magazines were purchased by the Smithsonian. The invaluable photo archives of Johnson Publishing were recently acquired by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in partnership with the Getty Research Institute. This collection that documents African American culture in the 20th century will be studied and digitized by Getty and the Smithsonian. The Art Newspaper.

An exhibit opens in Houston dedicated to women who wore collars. A new exhibit at the Heritage Society in Houston celebrates 21 women who wore collars and changed history. The artist, Carolyn Marks Johnson, created the exhibit, Woman: Spirit of the Universe to be a celebration about women who had spirit and a desire to accomplish things for other women. Through bronzed collar sculptures, Johnson honors 21 women changemakers who made a contribution to all women in the effort to gain equality. Heritage Society.

A new look at seven women photographers from Florence’s Alinari Archive. In recent years a number of major museum exhibits have focused on highlighting underknown women photographers. In Florence, a new iteration is underway, “Fotografe! Women photographers: Alinari Archives to Contemporary Perspectives,” which runs through October 2, showcasing the work of 50 female photographers spanning the 19th century to today. ARTnews.

Memphis-based museum partners with NFT-club to save work of civil rights photographer. The Withers Collection, a museum and art gallery dedicated to the work of famed Civil Rights photographer Dr. Ernest C. Withers, is collaborating with NFT-membership club 1687 on a unique digital art project to help preserve and digitize nearly 2 million historically significant images from the Civil Rights period in the United States.
