So far it is the norm to have a protocols code be closed source all over the solana ecosystem. There are notable giants on top of which most of Solana’s DeFi ecosystem runs on: Serum and Mango. Both of these protocols are open sourced and we are happy to say that we will be joining them.

But why?
Greater security and trust through openness.
Our developers are quite skilled and before any integration goes into production it is combed through for the security of all accounts. Every dollar that interacts with our contracts means everything to us. We are proud to say that there has never been a single dollar exploited from our contracts. However, all our code is new and been around for only 1 year. We are human after all and could have made a mistake. More eyes on the code means it’s more likely a mistake is caught before it causes material damage to our users.
Open sourcing allows for anyone planning on committing funds to our contracts the ability to look over the code that will govern their clients’ money. It’s all out in the open and anyone can see that our platform has no way of appropriating your funds in a way you did not intend. This is needed in decentralized finance and especially an asset management platform. Billions of dollars has been lost to exploits and hacks in the first years of decentralized finance so we understand our user’s greatest fear. Some of the team has been personally affected by one exploit or another so we have been in your shoes. At Investin, we will do everything in our power to ensure that does not occur to our users and open sourcing is a crucial step in that mission. We hope that others follow us.

Community collaboration
We have worked closely with the team at Mango in the past and know how valuable an outsider’s perspective to our code can be. Our users vary in sophistication and coding ability but we know some are quite skilled! Now with the codebase of Investin open to all users with a feature they really want or a potential optimization can be done by the user themselves. Linux is the classic example of this model where an entire operating system is improved upon and maintained by the community. Open sourcing removes the wall to community collaboration entirely and improvements can be made with a simple pull request. Our developers will continue to build as they always have but now anyone that wants to see something on Investin can make it happen themselves.
The team at Investin knows from first hand how daunting it can be as a developer that is new to Rust and Solana to create anything. We were in that very spot more than a year ago but thankfully there were 2 protocols on top of which everything was built that were open source: Serum and Mango Markets. We were experienced in building in a EVM environment but building on Solana is different. We went through that code and began to understand how to build on Solana. It would have been impossible if we did not have their code as our first stepping stones to build upon. We cannot thank both of those teams enough.
Investin was the first decentralized non-custodial platform on Solana and it will now be the first to open source their protocol. We stand on the shoulders of giants and now give another step for budding developers on Solana to build further. We cannot wait to see what innovations everyone is going to create. So much has already been built and we are excited to see where the Solana ecosystem will be in a year for now. One thing is for certain:
