*All* of your weeds are trying to tell you something!
There’s a whole subcategory of “weed control” that studies how to interpret what it means when a “weed” is growing in your area, herbicide-resistant or not. Rather than summarize, here’s a pretty fantastic run-down:
More than that, though, I think they’re trying to remind you that you are part of a spectrum that includes “wild” plants. No matter what you try to do in your growing environment, you’re going to have to address the fact that some plants are opportunistic, and may drop by for a visit.
Did you know that some weed seeds can lie dormant for decades? Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense) seeds, for example, can survive in the soil for up to sixty years. This is one of the reasons tilling can actually cause weed problems — it exposes buried, dormant seeds to the light.
These plants really are a kind of “Invisible Realm,” way weirder and more interesting and occult than any “fairies” or “elementals” or whatnot.
