In the show Insecure, emotionally unavailable Molly unconsciously finds every excuse she can to avoid getting into a real relationship. She deems one man she meets “too thirsty” when he flirts with her in a good-natured way. She deems another man, Jared, to be “too gay” when he confides in her that he had oral sex with another man. Once. A long time ago. Although Jared reassures her that he is straight, she ends up dropping Jared but has lingering doubts about whether she made the right decision.

Months later, she runs into Jared at an outdoor movie night. He is with another man, and Molly instantly assumes that Jared is in a gay relationship. She immediately runs off to gossip with her friends. Later in the same evening, she runs into Jared again. Only this time, Jared is holding hands with a girl who the audience can tell is his girlfriend. The other man that Molly saw Jared with is there, and he is also holding hands with a girl. The four of them are on a double date, and the other man turns out to be Jared’s brother.
