The Dopamine Detox is the Frankenstein of the self-improvement world.

An innocent experiment that took on a life of its own and became something it was never meant to be.

Even its creator, Dr Cameron Sepah, agrees.

In case you missed it, the new trend in the self-improvement world is to do a “dopamine detox,” designed to help you stop unhelpful behaviour and start working on the things that matter.

And if you have ADHD, this sounds like a miracle pill.

But it’s not.

If you have ADHD and you’re considering doing a dopamine detox, read on.

What is a dopamine detox?

The theory of the dopamine detox (at least the latest version) is that by abstaining from activities that spike your dopamine (pleasure hormones), you’ll reduce the amount of dopamine your brain produces.

This typically includes things like scrolling social media, watching TV, listening to music… anything that could be seen as distracting and that gives you a quick hit of dopamine.
