The dopamine nation

World media are doing no favor to mentally ill. If you attach yourself to media stream you risk huge damage to your well-being. Don’t do it. Just don’t do it.
Here is my replying tweet to CNN from days ago.
Original CNN’s tweet
Holocaust survivor watches Charlottesville, says neo-Nazi has “the same hatred” as those at Auschwitz http://cnn.it/2uVXzGU
Replying to @CNN
You are not about the victims @CNN. Using other people’s misery for click-baiting is another low for you. (1 reply 0 retweets 6 likes)
It was a moment of desperation, a scream of enough. The original CNN tweet was about a Jewish victim talking about Nazis. 70 years ago. Media is portraying misery without any self-control. They paint the world as if it was pure hell and everybody is against everybody. The world of the contemporary Apocalypse without future, well at least without bright future of hope.
If you get caught in the meaning of the CNN’s tweet you will unquestionably pick a side and get sucked in an infinite regress of us against them. That’s what media wants. They give screen time to obscure below average people (the new Nazis, not the Holocaust survivor) from half world giving a context like it was a grassroots movement of evil. Like there were tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands blood thirsty people soon to knock on your door with a baseball bat. That’s not a good environment for mentally ill. We have enough troubles within ourselves. What we don’t need is a pouring violence (mostly mentally) in our system fueling all kinds of stressful thoughts and emotions.
The media couldn’t care less for the victims. All they see is a left/right conflict that gives them clicks and views. And you get anchored to your screens looking for a glitch of good news that may give you a breath of fresh air. And the good news never comes. What you are actually suffering from is called the dopamine loop. On top of your mental condition.
The dopamine loop
Among many functions, the dopamine is a neurotransmitter that gives us the urge to find out what is going on around us and to seek pleasurable rewards. So each time you are rubbing your fingers against the touch screen looking for a pleasurable glitch (good news, like you, get for your Facebook post, clap you get for your Medium story, an email that is actually positive) you are answering the urge to seek.
When you actually get the pleasurable reward, one in a million obscure news, it activates your opioid system, the pleasurable reward. And it is quite simple. But. There is a catch.
The dopamine system(seeking for a reward) is many times stronger than the opioid system(pleasure/reward). Many times stronger. And you get addicted to seeking. NOT to your smartphone and NOT to the reward.
You have an addiction to dopamine, the seeking hormone/neurotransmitter.
Ask yourself. Do you go to bed with your smartphone? If you lost your smartphone how would you feel? Try not to turn it on for two hours…
The addiction is real and you got it. The media thrives on dopamine nation and your days are burning away. The loop. The circle. The ring of fire. Now, that is another mental disorder and everybody has it. And you, my brother/sister in illness, you have a huge problem. The constant chewing on media crap can only leave a bad feeling in your mouth.
Did you know that camels chew on thorns so they can bleed inside their mouths? They like the taste of blood and are addicted to it. The media are thorns that keep your wounds constantly open. And you bleed, and you like the blood.
The first step in your therapy should be media abstinence. The media pretend to be of public benefit. But they are not. They just want to inject more dopamine to your system so you can ask for more. They deal drugs and you are a drug addict. That is so simple.
The way out
Don’t choose sides. Don’t bother. Just leave it. Respect every human. Love people, for there are no others. Here is the cure for the dopamine loop.
Another my tweet that gives the solution:
I discriminate people. Not by being left or right. But by being tolerant or intolerant. Nah, I even tolerate the intolerant.
The intolerants are always the same, they add the gasoline to the fire regardless of the side they are on. Get the hell away from them. They are the thorns. Get to the people that are loving and tolerant. Become one. Love. That is the only cure. Rise above all the garbage that is always present and left by the media and attached ticks, pardon, trolls unaware of the media agenda. Yes, agenda. To get clicks and to present their context within which you interpret information. (That is a material for another post and another time).
If everybody would leave the media and the trolls united the obscure half world creatures would only be sparks that fall on calm waters with no chance to start a fire. Be calm like water. Be the morning of eternal Sunday. Be yourself and fill your soul with love. If you get into the passive mode and let the dopamine do its business your soul will be filled with crap and your thoughts will be shaped by the media. Run away. Breathe. Take your shoes off and walk in the woods barefooted. You may step on a real thorn, but you will be free.
Freedom. The only way to live and to die.
The first commandment of mental health today
Starting from today leave the news, raise your head. Don’t live with your head down (looking at the screen), that’s what they want. Use the smartphone for the good in your active mode, not passive, consuming mode. Raise your head. You will be able to see the real world. The beautiful creation. It is easier than you think. Don’t find yourself looking back at your life with only screen time to remember. What a waste.
Leave the news. Let the media choke on their thorns. I promise you a better life, mentally healthier and with purpose. And don’t choose their sides. Choose a side of tolerant people. Let’s grow in numbers. For the better world ahead.
