Can grief lead to joy? Some make this a goal. A neighbor, for example, insisted last month that the wake for her deceased husband would include music, laughter, and stories along with the tears.

It’s admirable because many of us don’t link emotions such as joy and humor with loss.

It was Psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross who gave us a guide for traveling through grief. But no one truly takes a preordained path. The journey varies as much as personalities do.
