As much as I remember, ICQ and MSN manager was a big hit around my high school time. During that period, everyone in my class was so obsessed with online chatting and forums. The first thing that we did after school was to turn on the computer and start pinging people in the online chat window.

It was funny that although we met everyone in school only a couple of hours ago, we re-connected once we were back home and started chatting again. We talked about celebrities, school, gossip, and taboos that we didn’t dare to speak in person.

Time flew by with these juicy conversations. When we finally looked at the clock, it was already midnight. Screaming parents with the risk of not getting pocket money this week — we finally had to say to our friends, “Sorry, I have to go offline now. See you tomorrow.”

I lost track of how fast technology has progressed since then. And when smartphones hit the market, we no longer hear the term “offline” from people. Being constantly online has become the new normal, regardless if it is in the school or work environment.
