Operation: Music, Week 2

The theme of the week is TRUST.

“Trust The Process™” > an Orwellian marketing slogan we should use someday; That is, trust the evolutionary process you’re going through, we’re all going through, the company is going through…

But most of all, trust the people.

This is a superlative team of individuals. We’re not perfect. But we’re a great team.

Our skillsets and personalities and backgrounds are really different… and in my opinion, really complimentary. And we have an uncanny ability to work through issues and come out on top.

Christopher Chavez said something really wise to me a couple months ago…

Prophesied he, thus:
‘People are going to feel like things are falling apart.
— That’s turbulence. It’s not a bad sign. It’s a sign that we’re accelerating.
— It’s unnatural to shoot off into space. Gravity and friction are going to resist.
— But the longer we can hold together, the surer our chances of breaking out into orbit.
— That’s the main thing, Francis: especially when things feel like they’re falling apart, we need to hold together.’

Are you sure we can take this? And then, Keenahn Tiberius Jung nodded while stroking his beard, as he does, and said, ‘Well, we’ve held together this far…’ and I knew… I knew!

That was one of the wisest and most prescient things anyone has ever said to me!

It’s all going to work out just fine!

That’s what I want you all to know this week.
It’s going to be rattle and hum, you’ll feel the turbulence, but we’re going to hold together.
We’re going to keep falling apart together until we break through.

YOU ALL GOT A TASTE OF THIS, THIS MORNING.
We rolled out a new company schedule. It was a bit chaotic and disruptive.
But by and large, the roll-out took. And meetings happened. And now we’re in a new swing of things.

THE MORE TRUST YOU HAVE, THE MORE FLEXIBLE YOU CAN BE.

The more you invest in the process and in the people, the easier it is to bend and flex. When you hit some turbulence, you can weather it, because you know that it’s going to get better.

DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN DAL 2.0 LAUNCHED?!

My goodness, January was DRAMATIC. Everything was breaking. The database went down. Yikes. But we knew there was risk. And if we had waited for a ZERO RISK LAUNCH, there’s a chance it STILL wouldn’t have launched.
At some point you have to take the leap of faith! And when you’re on a team, you have to take it together.

Trust is important on every team, but ESPECIALLY on a remote team.
I can’t even see you… I have to “feel” you with my telepathic, superstitious mind’s eye!

I want to us to become the kind of team that trusts each other because we’ve:
— challenged each other,
— seen each other evolve,
— invested in each other and in our systems for working together,
— taken leaps of faith,
— gotten into arguments,
— miscommunicated and been misunderstood and made mistakes,
— seen things go wrong,
— seen things go right,
— given each other feedback,
— tried again,
— kept upgrading,
— kept investing in each other and in our systems,
— kept taking leaps of faith…

And we STILL come out alive, on top, having made progress, operating on a DIFFERENT LEVEL… and most of all, we still RESPECT and ADMIRE each other.

Through ups and downs, trust is the compounding interest we collect from the investments we make in process and in each other.

That’s what being on a great team is all about.
Here’s to another week!

Just in case you forgot,

OPERATION MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT ORGANIZATION
SO INSTEAD OF EVERYTHING HAPPENING ALL AT ONCE
EVERYTHING HAPPENS ON TIME!
