Ubisoft NFTs 🎮

Ubisoft is the latest gaming company to dive into the world of NFTs. Starting this week, Ubisoft will implement a new system called “Digits” to add NFTs to its in-game items. Digits will be in-game digital objects with unique serial numbers that can be purchased and sold — like an NFT.

The most prominent game developer and publisher to start an NFT project thus far is Ubisoft. Ubisoft is known for games like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, and it’s currently the most prominent game developer to incorporate NFTs.

Many critics say NFTs are detrimental for the environment and provide no benefit over existing systems — do you agree? Ubisoft says they have addressed the environmental concerns.

The Tezos blockchain will store Ubisoft’s NFTs, which the company claims are considerably more energy-efficient than other chains. Traditional cryptos rely on “proof of work,” which requires a lot of computational power to validate transactions. Tezos uses a different method known as “proof of stake.”

The usage of NFTs in gaming is divisive, with many gamers feeling they are just a means of greedily making money rather than improving the player experience. However, Ubisoft claims that its NFT system is a first step toward creating a real metaverse.

In the metaverse, you may need to transfer your digitally owned goods to a different digital realm. NFTs could provide a mechanism for doing so. Will you be purchasing any Ubisoft Digits?
