Since the launch of mainnet on February 25, IOST has been experiencing rapid growth in DApps, mainnet accounts, and transaction volumes. These figures continue to increase at a strong pace in May, as IOST’s commitment to technology, ecosystem building, community management and partners on-boarding start to bear fruit.

Block Height Comparison 80 Days After Mainnet Launch

Block height comparison 80 days after mainnet launch

The bar chart above demonstrates the block height comparison between IOST, Ethereum, Tron and EOS 80 days after their respective mainnet launch.

IOST exhibits the strongest momentum among the Big 4 public chains with the block height nearly 60 times higher than Ethereum, and 8 times higher than Tron during the same period post-mainnet.

Data for IOST, Ethereum, Tron and EOS are on 13 May 2019, 20 September 2015, 20 August 2018 and 24 August 2018 respectively.

Current Block Height Comparison Between Big 4 Public Chains

Data source: Tokenview and Bloks.io

The bar chart above shows block height values for the Big 4 public chains: IOST, Ethereum, Tron and EOS at 14:20, 13 May 2019. IOST continues to hold the second position with the block height of 15,396,117, double the height of Ethereum.

What Is Block Height?

The block height is the total number of blocks connected since the genesis block. The height of any given block is the number of blocks between it and the genesis block.

A block is simply a collection of individual transactions such as: Alice sends 1 IOST to Bob. When transactions are bundled together, the bundle then becomes referred to as a block. As well as containing a batch of transactions, each block will contain a cryptographic hash and a time stamp in order to ensure the integrity of the block, as well as the entire blockchain.

Block height is an indication of transaction processing speed. In a certain period of time, higher block height means higher transaction processing speed. 80 days post-mainnet, IOST is displaying an ecosystem growth rate significantly higher than its Big 4 peers in their respective corresponding periods, which shows its superior performance.

Contracts deployed on IOST

As of 13 May 2019, the number of contracts deployed on IOST has reached 100. Since the launch of the first IOST DApp, contracts deployed on IOST have been experiencing strong growth rates, indicating an increasing number of developers building DApps on IOST. IOST is expecting to see more entertaining on-board DApps and a prosperous DApp ecosystem in the near future.
