IOST is committed to create a truly usable public chain. As of today, there are already several Dapps on board the IOST mainnet. Cell Evolution, the first sandbox game built on the IOST mainnet, is now officially launched!

How to play Cell Evolution

At present, members of the IOST community can play with this Dapp through the iWallet:

Introduction to Cell Evolution and White Matrix

Cell Evolution is the first puzzle sandbox Dapp built on IOST. Each player acts as a cell group. Players need to balance between Adaptability, Reproductivity and Survivability in the game. When a player finished thegame, they can choose to do DNA merging. This function will upload the data into the whole ethnic group. This is not only a game, but also a real world social experiment. If the ethnic group has unbalanced data, the cell world will be destroyed. Millions of the cells will together, decide the destiny of the world!

Previously, Wu Xiao from White Matrix and Cell Evolution development team and Professor Cai Wei of Software and Blockchain Systems Laboratory of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) collaborated on a cross-chain and cross-game role interaction sharing framework, which was included in the demo session of INFOCOM 2019, a top academic conference on computer networks. Later this year, White Matrix will launch more fun-worthy Dapps on the main IOST Mainnet.

Choose Between Single Player and World Player Modes

Single Player

The main interface of the game is divided into the cell info panel on the top and the player operation buttons underneath it.

Game play is easy. There are only six operation buttons: Divide, Evolve, Mutate, Sleep, Apoptosis, Inherit.

Divide: Increase the number of cells according to divide parameters.

Evolve and Mutate: Three parameters — reproductivity, adaptability and survivability, can be enhanced under specific conditions. This is the core hidden rule of the game, which requires players to explore and discover the evolutionary law and variation logic themselves.

Sleep: Sleep can restore life cycles, and the number of recoveries is related to survivability and the external environment.

Each of the above operations represents a day in the game, corresponding to the survival day +1.

Inherit: Hereditary cells can inherit the attributes of certain DNA as initial attributes at the beginning, with a probability of inheriting better attributes as well as lower attributes. Inheriting better attributes will assist players in going for high scores. Players who want to repair the world (world repairers) can choose to go for a selective genetic start. This increases the interaction between the world and individual cells, and encourages people to integrate more into the cell world, to try for higher world scores, which also makes it easier to gain advantages at a later stage.

Apoptosis: Apoptosis is a biological term and a very important discovery in nature. Some cell sacrifices are necessary to the maintenance and renewal of organisms, and these cells quietly withdraw after completing their mission. Here, through this function, we give world repairers more creative space. When you choose apoptosis, the cell’s life cycle will immediately return to zero, and the highest attributes of reproduction, adaptability and survival will be partially integrated into the world’s DNA. Sacrifice oneself to benefit the world!

The player data panel includes Days, Cell Numbers, Environment, Reproductivity, Adaptability, Survivability and Life Cycle. Every time an operation is performed, part of the data in this data panel changes.

Days: Represents the number of days that you have survived in the game, higher scores can be achieved with as many survivors as possible.

Cell Numbers: The cell numbers represent the number of cells you have. Higher scores can be achieved with more cells.

Environment: The external environment will increase with the increase of survival days. Hhigh-risk environment will pose a threat to the life cycle.

Life Cycle: Determines the survival time of cells. Hint: Try sleeping before the life cycle ends.

Reproductivity: Determines the quantity of each reproduction.

Adaptability: Determines the success rate of mutation.

Survivability: Determines the resistance of cells to external environment.

Simply put, players need to choose the most appropriate development route according to the data panel, increase the reproductivity, adaptability, survivability and the number of cells, to renew their lives, and ultimately get high scores.

Above is the basic method of playing in single player mode. Part of the game logic is hidden from players, so that players cannot reverse engineer winning move, to create a better gaming environment. We can give you two small tips to start with:

  1. Game ends when your Life Cycle is zero, evolutionary operations consume five life cycles, and Sleep is the only way to extend your life cycle (the rule here is not obvious, but a large number of players lose the game without knowing it).
  2. You should look at Evolving when attributes are relatively balanced, otherwise it wastes five life cycles.

World Player

Individual development is only a part of the game. After the game ends, everyone can choose to integrate their DNA information (that is, data panel) into the world. And your integration will be related to the survival of the entire world. Only if the reproductivity, adaptability and survivability are balanced along with the development can the world survive.

World Data Panel

Remember, the real game begins after you nurtured a cell!

In the world of cell evolution, there are cell groups. When a population’s reproductivity, adaptability and survivability are balanced along the development, the population can survive.

The world is made up of countless nurtured cells.

When you get a unique title and a very high game score, your unbalanced attributes may lead to the extinction of the population. Will you choose to integrate your records into the overall DNA database and lock in your high scores, or give up a perfect cultivation to save the world?

Cell Evolution is here, waiting for you to explore!

More Dapps Coming

IOST will be launching more DApps of different types. We are looking forward to enrich the IOST ecosystem with more Dapps going forward, and also hoping that everyone can experience the magic of blockchain + gaming through IOST.
