Sensory Symphony: Exploring the Fusion of Scent, Sound, and Digital Art
Innovative Integration of Culture and Technology at Nagoya Zokei University’s Outdoor Gallery
On May 6th, Nagoya Zokei University (Meijo Campus) 's outdoor gallery hosted an event featuring a fusion of scent and digital art. Founded in 1966, the university has pioneered in art and design, providing innovative education and research opportunities. Here, students hone their skills in self-expression, paving the way for careers as creative leaders of the next generation.
Dr. Wada from EverSystem, a leader in the IOST developer community, along with aromatherapist Maai, and the violin and guitar duo, are active in the “FUSSION” project, which utilizes the IOST blockchain for creating aromatic oils and Web3 projects. A unique aromatic oil blend from the FUSSION project was introduced and distributed to participants during a private party at the Hong Kong Web3 Festival 2024 in April, showcasing the innovative use of blockchain in enhancing artistic and sensory experiences.
This event took place at Nagoya Zokei University's new campus, completed in 2022, in an outdoor gallery bathed in abundant natural light. This open space, designed to foster cultural diversity and creativity, provided the perfect setting for showcasing innovative art and technology interactions.
During the violin and guitar duo performance, aromatherapist Maai filled the venue with the scents she blended. At the same time, the FUSSION project used blockchain technology to verify the composition of this aromatic oil blend. This event also featured a “kaleidoscopic art” display, a digital transformation of scents created by a video engine and projected for the attendees. This unique experience made it seem like the music painted colors in the space, and the scents were experienced as wavelengths of sound.
Amid this symphony of scents and sounds, Midori Hattori, a painter and graduate of Nagoya Zokei University, performed a live painting that merged traditional and contemporary Japanese culture. In the center of the outdoor gallery, Hattori’s art resonated with the music and aromas, beautifully capturing the essence of Japan’s nature and culture on a large canvas.
Simultaneously, the venue featured a captivating performance by Dalya, the Cosmic Dancer, who developed her unique style after exploring various dance genres. Her expressive performance mesmerized the attendees, adding a dynamic and enchanting element to the atmosphere.
Dr. Wada of EverSystem, a developer for IOST and the technical lead for the FUSSION project, along with aromatherapist Maai, showcased a variety of methods to express digital art through scent and Web3. Their innovative approach highlighted the fusion of technology and sensory experiences, providing a glimpse into the creative possibilities at these fields' intersection.
This event, held at the outdoor gallery of Nagoya Zokei University, allowed participants to experience a harmonious fusion of music, scent, and visual art through the innovative integration of culture and technology. Each medium influenced and interacted with the others, providing a unique enjoyment for all attendees.
