Short Video Super App Brings Millions of Users to IOST

In October last year, IOST CEO Jimmy revealed our incubation of Berm Protocol to the community for the first time. Based in New York, talents from world-renowned tech companies such as Google, Facebook and Bloomberg chose to join Berm Protocol to fulfill a vision.

Berm Protocol, the blockchain-based decentralized data governance protocol for the governance and fair distribution of news, content and data, has since launched its two flagship DApps, Berminal and Bermi, offering millions of users and audiences wider access to news, information, and a balanced exchange of ideas.

Bermi — The Super Short Video App in Latin America

Thanks to its talented team and investment from IOST, Bermi has been experiencing an exponential growth in Latin American market share, surpassing Snapchat and TikTok for several times and attracting exposure from numerous well-known medias.

As a community of video creators sharing the best in short video content, Bermi is available on the Apple App Store and Android Play Store now. Users earn rewards as they watch, share and like engaging videos. The app learns user preferences and predicts content users will enjoy, making it fast and easy to find discover content. Since January 2019, Bermi users upload over one million new videos onto the platform each month, accumulating over 250 million views.

Bermi — Bringing Millions of Users to IOST

Bermi has seen significant traction in Latin America, with over 40 percent of its users based in Colombia and Mexico. In fact, Bermi was ranked as the 4th and 6th most popular social app in the Colombia and Mexico Google Play Stores respectively, surpassing both Snapchat and TikTok. It ranks the 5th in Chile, Peru, Venezuela and Dominican Republic and the 7th in Argentina. On the whole APP list, Bermi ranks the 7th in Colombia, the 13th in the Dominican Republic, and the 25th in Peru.

In addition, over 72 percent of its users are between the ages of 18 and 34, and skews heavily male (67 percent). It’s success in attracting a significant audience in a short amount of time has attracted the attention of numerous partners and merchants.

Bermi is an official Google AdMob publisher, is a PayPal Merchant Partner, and has collaborated with Cobo Wallet as the official wallet partner of the Bermi community.

IOST + Bermi, One Plus One Is More Than Two

Bermi had attracted attention in Latin America with its tremendous growth rates and has entered into negotiations with multiple potential partners to lower the cost of international remittance using blockchain technology. As of now, Bermi has already achieved initial partnership plans in El Salvador and the Dominican Republic.

The Bermi team has an excellent and diverse background. They are graduates from the world’s top universities such as Harvard University, Columbia University, Princeton University, Dartmouth University and Brown University. They also include former employees from Google, TripAdvisor, Microsoft, Kayak, Ogilvy & Mather and Deloitte. Earlier on, Bermi had also received USD3 million in angel investments from ZhenFund and Matrix China.

IOST will work hand in hand with the Bermi team to make Bermi the first pop product on blockchain. In the future, Bermi will contribute to IOST ecosystem by bringing more real users and traffic to the IOST ecosystem. Bermi will also take advantage of IOST’s blockchain technology to enable convenient financial services for more people and make the world a better place.
