IoT Fest Zagreb — 17 June 2017

On the 17th of June, Croatian IoT enthusiasts and makers met during IoT Fest Zagreb at Technology Park Zagreb. The event was organized by the initiative of IoT creators supported by hub:raum Krakow and Hrvatski Telekom. This was the fourth meeting in the cycle of IoT Fests (Poland -> Slovakia -> Romania -> Croatia -> Poland).

IoT Fest Zagreb followed a well-tested structure: presentations, IoT showroom and IoT workshops. Attendees could also reserve a meeting with hub:raum team to talk about the IoT opportunities and hub:raum tailor-made programs for their projects.

The speakers from Byte Lab, Smart Sense, Hrvatski Telekom, University of Zagreb, Institute for Youth Development and Innovativity (IRIM) spoke about the challenges and opportunities and the future of the IoT. The attendees could also hear about the IRIM’s projects on donation and development of robotics and automation education in elementary school — age children.

Also, one valuable presentation was provided by Tomislav Ražov from Smart Sense. Tomislav spoke about IoT in environmental monitoring — the ways of informing people of any health hazards present in their homes and offices or on larger areas. The Smart Sense solutions monitor key air quality parameters: temperature, humidity and CO2 levels. It visually and numerically displays values for desired time periods and can send notifications to users when the values are out of the ordinary.

Another important topic at the IoT Fest Zagreb was NarrowBand Internet of Things — the new way of communicating with “things” (for more information click here). Jakub Probola, Head of hu:braum Krakow, provided an introduction to this new technology and presented its key features and benefits. Two more presentations about NB-IoT were provided by companies who participated in NB-IoT Prototyping Hub program: Borna Belak from EcoMobile (Smart Waste Management) and Krešimir Meštrić, CEO Mobilisis (Smart Parking solution).

The potential of the NB-IoT is huge. That’s why hub:raum has recently launched the new WARP NB-IoT program which gives a great opportunity to implement an NB-IoT solution together with DT customers.

At the IoT Fest Showroom the participants could literally “touch” the Internet of Things solutions and speak with their makers. The exhibitors were the companies both supported by the hub:raum, and the external ones.

The perfect addition to the conference and showroom parts were IoT workshops which gave the possibility to gain knowledge and practice in the field of the Internet of Things. The attendees could learn an easy way of programming apps for Android smartphones at the workshop provided by Vlatko Klabučar, Luka Fućek from STEMI. The other workshop was led by Łukasz Cieśla, Program Manager at hub:raum Kraków, who shared hub:raum’s experiences in the area of integrating new IoT solutions/startups into the corporate structure. He offered insights into „Design Sprint” concept, Lean Startup methodologies, „Nb-IoT Prototyping Hub” activities and a number of other program examples which are a part of hub:raum’s DNA. It was all about speed, flexibility and moving fast with corporate partners.
