It’s a new school year, and that means there have been some changes made to the Iowa Baseball Manager program. To start, we will be using this platform to share blog posts, rather than our old home on our website.

While the Fall season will look different from previous years, we will keep the wheels spinning regardless. Despite the uncertainty, we are very fortunate to bring in a handful of students to fill each of our four departments. We are excited to continue moving the needle with the several bright young minds in our program, and we can’t wait to publish our work on both this blog and on Twitter.

Outside of practice, every week we are keeping our staff busy with our manager education presentations, also known as “minicamps.” Last week we had four speakers talk about their experiences in applying for positions in the baseball industry and shared some helpful tips for the rest of the crew. The remainder of the topics range from player development technology lessons to coding tutorials.

Personnel Update

Despite facing the adversity of many canceled internships, we had several managers serve the baseball community in positions throughout Iowa high school baseball, the Northwoods league, private training facilities, and more. We are very proud of the way our crew handled this summer and whether they fulfilled the positions they secured prior the pandemic or not, their hard work did not go unnoticed.

With every new school year brings a new leadership team. This year’s crew is quite similar and we are excited to have some familiar faces return.

Last year’s head manager, Adam Schuck, is with the program this Fall completing his bachelor’s degree in Statistics while he waits for his position with the Baltimore Orioles player development staff to start. He provides this year’s leadership team with four years of experience, a deep understanding of pitching, and someone we can always turn to for help.

Ryan Gorman slots in as the new head manager after acting as lead on-field manager during his junior year. Ryan recently completed an internship at Premier Pitching Performance (P3) in St. Louis, Missouri where he worked directly with pitchers and furthered his knowledge of pitching and biomechanics.

Taking over the lead on-field manager position is Creighton Rudolph. This summer, Creighton coached his hometown American Legion baseball team after his Scout Analyst internship in the Cape Cod League was canceled.

Although Sam Bornstein graduated this May, he decided to return to Iowa to pursue his master’s degree in Business Analytics after his post-graduation plans with the Chicago White Sox were canceled. He will continue in his role as lead data analyst.

Paul Sirena also graduated this May but will be following the same path as Sam in the MSBA program, while continuing his position as a data analyst.

We would also like to give a proper sendoff to now former managers, Haley Schulte and Anthony Osnacz. Haley was our very first Administrative Assistant, who in many ways carved out her own job responsibilities. This October, she will be starting as an Audit Associate at KPMG in Des Moines, Iowa. Anthony joined our program only a year ago but left his mark on the analytics department in the short time he was with us. Last month, he began an internship at Driveline Baseball in Kent, Washington as a High Performance Intern. This program is better because of the work put in by these two individuals and we know they will succeed in their new positions!

The Road Ahead

Behind the scenes we’ve been planning several ways to keep ourselves busy during these unprecedented times. This Fall you should expect to see weekly blog posts and frequent Twitter content. Each of our four departments are constantly looking for ways to advance our professional development, and we are excited to see where this Fall takes us! We will see you next Monday with our next blog post!
