IPEVO VZ-X wireless document camera as an affordable assistive tool

Can IPEVO VZ-X wireless document camera possibly be used as an affordable assistive tool for the visually impaired? This is a question we seek to answer, and we know that the answer lies within the low vision community. Therefore, we approached various low vision organizations and associations for the blind and invited them to review it. That was how we met Sam Seavey, an assistive tech specialist from Kentucky, Louisville. Besides working as an assistive tech specialist, Sam also tries out different assistive technology and shares his experiences on his YouTube channel, The Blind Life. When we contacted him earlier this year, he kindly agreed to share his thoughts on VZ-X with us after trying it out.

He came back to us with his feedback a few days back, and to be honest, we didn’t expect him to give VZ-X such a highly-rated review. As he shared, “This thing is freaking amazing. I’d plugged it up to a monitor once before and tested the onboard controls. Those alone are really cool but as soon as I plugged it up to the free software, that’s when this thing really jumped to a whole new level of Awesome!”

And he continued, “The onboard controls alone make it a great option for helping the visually impaired access printed material. Then adding in the free software which brings in text-to-speech functionality, not to mention the small footprint, portability, and price, this thing could be the best option out there for us!”
