Apparently the Scots have so many castles they can destroy one of them at a whim. These ruins were created by Clan Grant, the residents of the castle in the 17th century, to prevent the Jacobites using the stronghold during their march south.
The stories of the castle match the dramatic setting it commands. A key site during the Scottish war of independence, repeated raids by the wild MacDonald clan from the north and the destruction of the fortification during the Jacobite rebellion are the highlights in a long and distinguished history.
