a glimpse of a maybe

A steady rhythm before “it”.
A little extra care needed
to return there after “it”.

The then and now?

A gentle pace of a friendship
nurturing growth in fits and bursts.
Always supportive platonic.
Meant to be so.
Arms-length enriching maturity.
Learning from and inspiring each other.
Feels good.
Feels right.

The “it”?

Sitting at a bench one late summer afternoon.
Sipping sparkling water.
Sauntering theatre wait.
Spotted walking towards this perch.
Shuffling casual, shirt top buttons undone.
Sunshine silhouetted glowing handsome.

Just for a micro-second
wondering what more might be
wanting to be younger
enough to reach out
and touch and stroke their skin
and kiss their lips
seeing a different path
illuminated warmth
blood sparked blush
over such an unsettling thought.

A glimpse of a maybe.
Unexpected.
(thankfully) Fleeting.
There for the blink of an eye.
Then gone.

Deep sigh of relief.
