A stellar poem

“She was ready to deny the existence of space and time rather than admit that love might not be eternal.”
― Simone de Beauvoir (The Mandarins)

She smiled, and a thousand Suns
glowed brighter in response

Clouds departed, minds turned spotless
bathing in an eternal sunshine

She was the daughter of the Milky Way
Stole hearts eager to be stolen

Seduced even the most resistant minds
She was attracted by wit more than beauty

Played with some, some played with hers
And then they each moved on

She wept, and the Universe itself darkened
pixies and fairies stopped their fun games

Unicorns and mermaids withdrew to their realms
She was too eager to see her stellar siblings

So eager that despair got to her whenever she failed
she wanted it, she desired it too much

She could visit the stars in her dreams — up close
disregarding all assumed limitations of space and time
