As The Mercury Drops

And the chill sets in…

Last season,
as the mercury dropped
and cold wind touched my skin,
I envied those with places to sink right in,
entwined toes and body parts, sharing warmth;

leaving me in the cold,
with nothing to hold
but an old blanket and unfulfilled dreams — not now;

another season of chill comes to an end,
fighting to the last breath, trying to do me in
this time I stand,
brave and bold
with realized dreams, protection from the cold.

Coming soon, Dancing Between Tall Grass.
