Flightless
I was a Bird on the Wire
Like the Leonard Cohen song.
In my efforts to be free
I did nearly everything wrong.
I hurt you, him, and her too.
They maimed me, I neglected that fact.
As the adrenaline fades away,
I begin to remember my past.
Being here isn't new, I was alone back then, too.
I never understood my distant friends.
I think I get it now, I think it might've clicked,
They were just waiting for it to end.
Who was I in their narrow eyes?
An injured bird removed from the flock.
Looking to the sky, I imagined being with them,
Now I look down at the phone that reads "blocked".
