Have You Seen a Magpie Glide

Have you seen a magpie glide,
Announce the sunrise,
Over sleepy meadows, and
A dew-shriveled brush by the curb
In the muddy hill road?

Have you seen an eagle look you in the eye
As she circles,
Hunts the ground,
For her babies’ breakfast?

What about a butterfly landing,
Like a sweetly earned dream,
On your toe, then, your pillow?

I’m sure you have
As have I, but have you…

Have you seen an owl turn his head
Roll his eye at your absurd crossing by
Your thinking just a bit too high —
Of yourself?
Did you think it‘d go unnoticed?

Anyway,

Have you seen a giraffe peekaboo
Through a crown of a leafy tree, or
A joyful gazelle leap across
Big-skyed, sun-withered golden field?

I’m sure you have
As have I, but have you…

Have you marveled at oceans’ breadth and depth, or
Mountains’ enchantment raising your humble soul
Beyond yourself?

Have you noticed?
I’m sure you have

May we never cease to notice and marvel.
