One Drop
A Poem
A heaviness in my heart,
Hurt emotions rip apart,
Stakes driven deeper,
Form a crushing boulder,
Squeezing me down,
Slow and deep under.
I scratch and claw,
I slip a hand out,
It’s but a straw,
A tendril of thought,
Failure of many a bout.
I reach.
Not to the sky,
But just outside.
My shriveled hand,
Swirls in seek,
All it needs is,
A drop of a leak.
A drop of sweetness,
A drop of life,
Says I exist,
Amidst this strife.
A drop of heart,
Says I matter,
A drop of healing,
Says no later.
My searching hand,
Goes round and round,
Around the boulder,
Goes round and round.
My dry hands,
Extends from,
My dry heart,
Extends numb.
Seeking and seeking,
That one drop.
To take it,
Bring it back,
To my heart.
That one drop,
To lift the boulder,
That one drop,
To lift the mountain,
That one drop,
To lift the world,
That one drop,
To lift the universe,
That one drop,
To lift life.
Seen that drop,
Felt that drop,
My hand thought,
Many times,
Many mirages,
All for naught.
My hand got drier,
Heart withered further.
I still seek,
That one drop.
That one drop,
To grow wings,
That one drop,
To fly away,
That one drop,
To soar high,
That one drop,
Change this boulder,
Make it a grain,
Make it disappear.
My hand reaches,
My hand cries.
All it needs,
All I need.
One drop.
