it opens up like the whiff of
freshly made coffee sending its
scent to your senses

alive and well
you stir groggily
gratefulness follows before
putting on slippers or walking
barefoot to the washroom
the splash of cold water awakens
you more
brushing your teeth, for sure

a repertoire of morning routines
practiced daily follows
a morning never hollow

you shower
make your bed
perhaps exercise next or
stretching to feel your best

breakfast and coffee
a last-minute check to see if
what you picked to wear agrees
with you more than bare

you open the door to check on
the weather
a sunny sky without any dark clouds
makes you feel light as a feather

life outside your door
birds singing, trees swaying
puts you ready for work, just saying
