When architects and designers are looking for a slim framed sliding door system often their first thought is for a minimally framed aluminium door system. Aluminium is the most widely used framing material to create a minimal frame but it is no longer the only choice available!

You can now achieve an elegant and minimal framing design with a warm timber frame thanks to the exclusive Carminati Skyline Range from IQ Glass.

Super slim frames and impressive performance values are only a few reasons why you should specify the Carminati Skyline Lift and Slide Doors for your new build or renovation project. Architects and specifiers all over the world include the Carminati Skyline systems on their project for ultra slim profiles in a highly engineered timber frame. Read below to learn a little more about this exclusive timber framed sliding door system.

1 - Worlds Slimmest Timber Frames

The Carminati Skyline Lift and Slide doors allow specifiers, designers and architects to integrate elegant timber framing into their designs whilst maintaining a modern design of thin framing. These doors have a vertical frame of only 37mm, providing specifiers with the slimmest timber framing available on the market. With a choice of Oak or Pine timber profiles, the timber framing structure is engineered and laminated for impressive strength, beauty and performance.

These timber framed doors can be specified into large sizes of up to 15m2per sliding pane. Combining the ultra slim frame with large glazed panels allows designers to open up spaces providing high levels of light ingress and no obstruction to views… all with a timber frame.

2 - Matching Windows and Doors

Carminati Skyline systems are a full range of timber framed systems, allowing you to use the same minimal timber framing on all openings on a build. The Carminati Skyline range also includes an ultra slim timber framed window and casement door. The timber profiles have the same finishing options available meaning that every frame matches.

3 - Bespoke Finishes

These timber sliding doors are available in either Oak or Pine with an array of stains and oils available to create your desired appearance. This gives you the flexibility to select the right timber finish to suit your building design. You could opt for a natural Oak finish, a lighter stain or a dark walnut look timber finish. There are lots of variations available.

Although the system has a solid timber profile you do have the option to finish the external face of the timber frames with aluminium. This would be most useful on coastal projects or installations where the windows would be hard to access to re-treat the timber. If you choose to have an aluminium external finish this face can be powder coated any RAL colour you request.

4 - Large Sizes

Each Carminati sliding door installation is completely bespoke, allowing you to create something to your exact requirements. The sliding doors have been fully tested to sliding panes up to 15m2 per unit. This is a very big sliding door! As we use Responsibly Sourced Timber there are certain parameters that we can recommend to the system in order to create a timber sliding door that is cost effective for your project.

For example it is very difficult to source timber lengths of greater than 3m from renewable sources. Therefore if any edge of your timber sliding door pane exceeds this the cost may increase to a prohibitive amount.

It is also useful to keep in mind that the maximum recommended panel weight is 1000kg per sliding pane and automation is always required on doors over 600kg. Automation is an additional cost so keep this in mind when considering pane sizes.

5 - Other Unique Qualities

When looking at minimal sliding systems the locking and handle designs are a keep component to consider. The door handle on the Carminati Skyline system is very clever in its design. The stainless steel handle sits within the slim 37mm profile ensuring that the frame design is continuous across the whole elevation. These door handles have been designed to sit within the timber framing with integrated magnets, allowing you to slot the handle into the door frame itself when the door is closed. The thrust lever used on this system is made from stainless steel with the choice of finishes including bronzed.

This unique feature continues the contemporary and minimal design of the lift and slide doors that is desired by many designers.

6 - Incredible Performance

Using ultra slim timber frames gives you the popular minimal sightline design with a natural warm frame. As timber is a natural insulator you are also provided with naturally high levels of thermal insulation with triple glazing available to improve this further.

Laminated timber profiles provide extremely high Uf values in comparison to other systems and framing materials. The thermal insulation from available from Carminati has Uf values as little as 1.2 W/m2K, compare this to a typical Uf value for a thermally broken metal frame of 2.5 W/m2K and you can see how well these doors insulate. Within these high performing frames we then include insulating glass in double or triple glazing to acheive astounding levels of thermal performance.

In addition this sliding door system has been fully tested for weather resistance including resistance to driving rain, wind resistance and air permeability.
