IQ Protocol Welcomes The Red Village
Dark fantasy themes are a mainstay of many video game genres. Among the most unique sub-genres of dark fantasy is the RPG. These games allow players to traverse a multitude of experiences — from horrors and doom, to spending time in seedy taverns, to character development and victory. Games as rich as fantasy RPGs are few and far between in the world of Web3 gaming. But surely their presence marks a step toward greater success and adoption of the industry.

The Red Village
The Red Village is a 3D dark-fantasy game built on the Polygon blockchain, which has recently closed an impressive $6.5M fundraising round.
The Red Village has two game modes. One the one hand, there is a multiplayer Tournament mode — which invites players to battle one another in a variety of different locations — and a soon to be released ‘To-the-Death’ mode which will allow players to battle each other, with the winner keeping their opponent’s NFT. Each style of fight has its own unique rewards and risks. The Red Village team also runs ‘juiced’ Tournaments, where they ‘top-up’ the winnings for players. On the other hand, there is also an open-world RPG known as The Red Village: Darklands. Still in development (by Animoca Brands’ subsidiary Blowfish Studios), the Darklands is an immersive, dark-fantasy RPG expansion, which draws inspiration from traditional titles such as RuneScape, Diablo, Skyrim, Elden Ring, and The Witcher.
The main playable characters — Champions — in The Red Village take the form of NFTs. Champions come in a variety of types (Genesis, Mystic, Warlord, and Lionheart) and in a variety of classes (wizard, paladin, barbarian, ranger, and druid). Each category and class involves different skills and abilities, which can all be level-up by winning Tournaments and progressing in the game. The stronger your character and your items, the more valuable your NFTs become! And, in the future, a breeding protocol known as Summoning will allow players to bring together the blood of strong Champions to create even stronger ones.
IQ Protocol + The Red Village
IQ Protocol has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to power the NFT rental marketplace in The Red Village. A core feature of IQ Protocol’s platform is the ability to create wrapped, expirable versions of digital assets, which can be used as the basis for a variety of solutions. Among these uses is the ability to lend and rent NFTs in a risk-free way.
Thanks to IQ Protocol, players of the Red Village will be able to do more than simply trade or sell their collections of Champions that they aren’t currently using. Now, they will be able to retain their assets and make passive income while allowing other players to gain their unique benefits. Players will be able to rent out any of their Champions, providing a fantastic opportunity for them to maximize ROI from a large Barracks (collection of Champions) and utilize under-fought Champions, potentially unearthing some undiscovered gems in the process. It will also create a great opportunity for people to rent their legendary Champions, with phenomenal win-rates, to others in the community. In the RPG, which is currently under development, there will likely be a vast array of items that players will be able to rent out to others, greatly increasing the scope of IQ Protocol’s service.
IQ Protocol provides the infrastructure for one player to rent out their NFTs to other players for a pre-arranged amount of time and for an agreed-upon price, benefiting both parties involved. Where stakers and lenders gain interest or income on their assets, renters gain access to whatever utility the asset represents, thereby bringing to life the use cases the assets empower.
We said our NFT renting model was risk-free. How does that work?
IQ Protocol’s model for NFT lending and borrowing is built to be risk-free. Typical modes of lending an asset puts the lender at risk, say, if the borrower loses hold of the asset (for whatever reason). With IQ Protocol, such risks are not a concern. Instead of giving the original asset to the borrower, IQ Protocol mints an expirable version of the NFT (which contains all of the unique features of the original). This NFT is then given to the borrower. Our platform guarantees that the original NFT is always safe and can be returned to the owner after the agreed-upon rental contract has expired. Now, players can rest easy renting out the items that they aren’t currently using, providing a source of passive income without having to sell their favorite assets.
