Iran launches Mobile Number Portability
With more than 70 million mobile users and three major mobile operators Iran has experienced a major boom in last few years.
Number of Mobile Data users jumped from 300,000 to eleven million users since 2013 that President Rouhani sited in office.
Iranian Regulatory for Communications has just implemented MNP( Mobile Number Portability) in Persian (ترابردپذیری). To provide freedom of choice for the subscribers.
Thanks to the popularity of social media platforms such as Instagram and messenger apps such as Telegram, Now Iranian mobile users are not only using mobile to make calls and send texts but they show a huge hunger for more data and Internet connectivity.
Next few month there will be a huge clash among three mobile operators to gain or lose their marketshare. With 65% marketshare MCI is the leader in mobile market follow by MTN-Irancell which holds 32% and Rightel with 3%. Hence MNP experience in other countries shows it can not change the marketshare dramatically.
