Azhar Al Madani, civil engineer and co-founder of Shiffer launched the platform in March 2018 after facing issues obtaining his daughter’s birth certificate from Syria.

The Erbil-based startup is a logistics platform that connects people who need to ship items and documents with travelers going between countries. Travelers get paid to deliver documents to their destination making the whole process reliable and cheaper than using DHL or FedEx. The startup especially caters to Syrians living abroad who struggle to send and receive important documents to and from Syria.

On 28 November 2018, Shiffer won first prize of $8000 at the Amsterdam Ignite Conference marking the end of the Startup Roadshow, organised by Jusoor and Spark. The Roadshow is a competition for Syrian startups across Iraq, Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon where participants are trained in entrepreneurship and two startups are chosen from each location to pitch at the Ignite Conference. Shiffer competed against 4 other finalists from the Roadshow in Amsterdam.
